La Segunda

I wrote this Sunday night, but wasn't able to post it due to technical complications...

Hello all. It's late but no tengo ganas de dormirme (I don't feel like sleeping), so I thought I'd put up a new post. Let's see... Lately (and currently) I've been rockin' out and mellowin' out to lots of White Stripes but I guess I can do that in the U.S. too so its not that exciting. But it is a major part of my life and that's what this blog is about: me. So this weekend, this weekend was fun. Friday night I went out to two cool bars (contraclub and areia), and then around 3:00 AM went to what may become my home away from home "El Junco". It is a jazz club that has free live music every night, and later has a DJ spinning some sweet tunes. Some of you may be familar with my desire to have more funk in my life-- this desire was fulfilled on friday. We danced for three hours to regae/rap/hiphop infused funk that was really fun. And lots of people there had some funky dance moves I was diggin. Then we caught the first morning metro back at 6. It was fun. Saturday went to a battle of the bands (at contraclub) between two spanish local groups that was fun. Then went to another discoteca (dance club) that was aight, but couldn't even hold a candle to "el junco". I am glad to have found one place I really dig that I can hang out at until 6 in the morning, but must endeavour to find others.

Anyway, I just bought tickets to the Atletico Madrid futbol game this sunday, and am really excited to go see it! and I am almost definetly going to go to Toledo for a daytrip this saturday. Toledo is a small and really old city within striking distance of Madrid, and it is supposed to be beautiful and really cool. (I think it was the capitol (or at least a capitol) of spain prior to Madrid.

I'm also going to El Museo Reina Sofia which is a huge art museum with lots of modern art on thursday. We are going with our art +architeqture guide Sonia who is very nice and I really enjoy hearing her speak about the artwork. I probably enjoed El Prado (Home to lots of Goya's work) more than I've ever enjoyed in an art museum because she gave things context. Lookin foward to that

Finally, I'm also psyched to go see my first spanish movie tomorrow- El Trunco del Manco. The trailer looks pretty sweet, and I'll get to meet my Spanish cinema professor who is attending with us. Yes, by the way I've decided to take Spanish Cinema and History of Art and Architecture(where I will learn how to spell) as my two electives. Which bothsound pretty sweet.

Wow, how long is this blog post. I guess people are asking me to write a lot, so I feel no guilt about rambling for so long. PLus, maybe I can use the length as an excuse for future gaps between posts.

and oh yes, friends, oh so important friends. I have been having fun with some clark kids, along with a couple of other american and international students I've met through my school. Pues, hasta luego
love and peace
